چکیده

We demonstrate a technique for precisely measuring hyperfine intervals in alkali atoms. The atoms form a three-level Λ system in the presence of a strong control laser and a weak probe laser. The dressed states created by the control laser show significant linewidth reduction. We have developed a technique for Doppler-free spectroscopy that enables the separation between the dressed states to be measured with high accuracy even in room-temperature atoms. The states go through an avoided crossing as the detuning of the control laser is changed from positive to negative. By studying the separation as a function of detuning, the center of the level-crossing diagram is determined with high precision, which yields the hyperfine interval. Using room-temperature Rb vapor, we obtain a precision of 44 kHz. This is a significant improvement over the current precision of ∼1 MHz. Typeset using REVTEX Electronic address: [email protected]

Investigation of Temperature Effect in Landau-Zener Avoided Crossing

Considering a temperature dependent two-level quantum system, we have numerically solved the Landau-Zener transition problem. The method includes the incorporation of temperature effect as a thermal noise added Schrödinger equation for the construction of the Hamiltonian. Here, the obtained results which describe the changes in the system including the quantum states and the transition pro...

Observations of λ/4 structure in a low-loss radio-frequency-dressed optical lattice

We load a Bose-Einstein condensate into a one-dimensional (1D) optical lattice altered through the use of radio-frequency (rf) dressing. The rf resonantly couples the three levels of the 87Rb F = 1 manifold and combines with a spin-dependent “bare” optical lattice to result in adiabatic potentials of variable shape, depth, and spatial frequency content. We choose dressing parameters such that t...

Robust state estimation in power systems using pre-filtering measurement data

State estimation is the foundation of any control and decision making in power networks. The first requirement for a secure network is a precise and safe state estimator in order to make decisions based on accurate knowledge of the network status. This paper introduces a new estimator which is able to detect bad data with few calculations without need for repetitions and estimation residual cal...

Two-photon adiabatic passage in ultracold Rb interacting with a single nanosecond, chirped pulse

A semiclassical, four-level model of a nanosecond, chirped pulse interacting with all optically accessible hyperfine states in an ultracold alkali atom, e.g., the Rb, is analyzed aiming at population inversion within 5S1/2 electronic state. The nature of two-photon adiabatic passage performed by a single pulse having the bandwidth prior to chirping significantly narrower than the hyperfine spli...

Avoided-level-crossing spectroscopy with dressed matter waves.

We devise a method for probing resonances of macroscopic matter waves in shaken optical lattices by monitoring their response to slow parameter changes, and show that such resonances can be disabled by particular choices of the driving amplitude. The theoretical analysis of this scheme reveals far-reaching analogies between dressed atoms and time periodically forced matter waves.
